In Rzeszow, between the 21st and 28th of July 2011, there will be the World Festival of Polish Expats Folklore. Thousands of visitors from around the world will come to Rzeszow to partake in the event.
After the first World Festival of Polish Expats Folklore was held in July 1969, Rzeszów was elected to host the festival. This is because in no other region there are quite as many Polish bands and folk musicians, and this tradition and love of folk culture are more vibrant here than in other parts of the country. Polish-American teams come to Rzeszow for the festival every three years, and this year will be the fifteenth occasion that they have done so. The festival itself traditionally begins with a procession through the streets of the city centre, and then concludes with a special concert. Equally important for all spectators and participants, whether local or foreign, are the many concerts taking place that embody the culture of the host nation where the expats now reside. For the 16 countries represented at the festival, this is indeed a great celebration. It is the only festival in Poland, during which both have so many artists. Interestingly, this festival comprises the greatest number of participants of any festival in Poland. This year
there is a staggering 1450 people performing. For the first time Moldova will be represented, and after 20 years it is wonderful to see the return of groups from Germany.
