Museums Night 2011

The ‘Museum Night’ initiative was generated for the first time in Berlin, in 1997. It was first introduced to Poland in 2003, and since then it has been growing year on year. More Polish cities have become involved in it since then, including Rzeszow.

The Museum Night’ idea itself is very simple. It provides an opportunity to visit a museum during the night hours for free. Additional attractions and access in the museums are available for viewing, including those that are not normally included in regular exhibitions. As well as this, there are events organised by other cultural centres. The objective of these events is to show museums in a different light, as a place where one can enjoy a thoroughly interesting time.

‘Museum Night’ this year took place on May 14th from 7 p.m. to 1.00 a.m. The motto for the event was ‘The Twenties, the Thirties.’ It was also the title of exhibitions available for viewing in the main building of The Rzeszow District Museum, which display Polish art from the interwar period. The Rzeszow Museum of Ethnography has also prepared an exhibition of jewellery for this occasion, titled ‘Not only jewels’. Finally, there was also a concert of old music and traditional Brods’ Band. The star of the night was Martyna Jakubowicz.

The Zorza cinema was organising a photographic exhibition by the ‘E. Janusz Company’ titled ‘Interwar
Rzeszow‘. Photos from this exhibition was available in the Rzeszow Museum of History.
