Jaslo – an another place worth visiting!

Jaslo is a small town located in the valley of three rivers: Wisloka, Jasiolka and Ropa. The picturesque landscapes of the Jasmine-sanockie natural hollows make the town appealing as a tourist destination.

What is Jaslo famous for?

The town has a rich and colourful history. The earliest documented reference to the settlement ‘Jasiel’ comes from 1185. The discovery of the oil pool in the nearby area contributed to the gradual development of the town. In 1859 in Ulaszowice, near Jaslo, Ignacy Lukasiewicz founded the world’s first crude oil distillery. Lukasiewicz is also known as the inventor of the tenement, which once housed Łukasiewicz’s chemistry apparatus and no accommodates exhibitions of The Regional Museum. The unique dresses of the Łemkowie and their rural art and craft are on display here. Moreover, Jaslo and its surroundings offer plenty of places worth visiting. The gothic Fara church in Jaslo and neogothic manor in Gorajowice are a must see.

Jaslo today

Nowadays Jaslo is an expansive industrial centre. It is located in the intersection of the most important rail and road trails. In the region it excels at ecological enterprises. Since 2002 Jasło has possessed the ISO 9001 certificate. Moreover, it constitutes a major tourist attraction on the paraffin trail stretching from Gorlice to Sambor in the Ukraine. The tourist trail running along Przybowka – Krajowice – Trzcinica – Skoloszyn is an additional attraction of the town.

Nearby attractions

The Jaslo region attracts numerous enthusiasts of peace and quiet and who enjoy contact with unspoilt nature. The Magurski National Park, founded in the region in 1995, will tempt you with its unique forest including mainly beeches and sycamores. The ‘Devil Stone’ – an erratic block situated on a slope of the Kosma mountain, is the star attraction of the forests. The local meadows are famous for rare species of butterflies. Enthusiasts of trekking may enjoy plenty of tourist trails here. The waterfall at Bednarka, located 20 km from Jaslo, is an ideal tourist destination.

Places worth seeing

The Jaslo region attracts visitors also for its historic monuments. The Royal Embankments in Trzcinica, known as the Carpathian Troy have long been the subject of local legends. Here the oldest remnants of the defensive settlement dated back to the Bronze Age have been discovered. To the south of Jaslo you can admire numerous orthodox churches and wooden cottages, which are remnants of the ethnic Łemkowie group that used to live here. The Salesian Sanctuary of Mother of God in Debowiec is the most frequently visited sacred monument in the region. The 15th century church in Nowy Żmigród, the larch church in Osiek Jasielski and the temple in Stary Zmigród must be included in the list of places of interest while visiting the region.
