Iwonicz Zdrój – one of the oldest and most famous Polish health resort.

 

SITUATION

The health resort, situated about 80 km south of Rzeszow ( the province capital), thanks to its beautifll location among sound forests, curing springs and the high standard of health service enjoys a good reputation in Poland and abroad. The superior advantages create perfect conditions for treatment and leisure. The climate in Iwonicz is be desribed as a piedmont climate with features of subalpine climate, what is extremly favourable in health resort treatment.

The mean twenty-four-hour temperature equals about 17 centigrades in summer months. The valley, surrounded from all sides with mountains and forests, is a unique repository of balmy air flowing through pases of the Carpathian Mountains. Forests of Iwonicz constitute a protect in spa from winds and are source of ozone.

 

HEALTH RESORT TREATMENT

Mineral waters and peat, natural therapeutic agents, are the greatest wealth of Iwonicz. The known for ages waters are used in treating a variety of diseases.

Portable waters cure allergies, hypertension, atherosclerosis, gastritis, metabolic diseases and hypothyroidism. Baths cure chronic diseases of peritheral nervous system, chronic gynaecological diseases, traumatic conditions and rheumatic diseases. Inhalations afe used in treatment of asthmatic conditions and respiratory tract diseases. The producted according to the evaporation method salt from Iwonicz is used in baths and compresses.

 

Iwonicz Zdrój offers a rich and well equipped sanatorium and boarding-house base. Health service objects have modern equpment and madical apparatus.

Some objects have their own establishments of treaatment by means of natural factorsand procedure departments, the central institution of treatment by means of natural factors supplements any shortage in respect to ambulatory services of objects which do not have their own procedure departments.

Visitors to the spa are offered a versatile and caring medical assistance, they are also provided with high standard accommodation and catering.

a landscape park (an area of 30ha), started at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, took his final form between 1890-1904

 

a synagogue from 1761, is a part of the Town History Department in the Łancut Castle Museum, has stunning polychromies, an autentic bimah, houses an exhibition of Jewish objects

old town square – historic buildings from 18th c. rebuilt in 19th and at the beginning of 20th c.

 

a St. Stanisław the bishop parish church – in ul.Farna – as tradition has it the parish was founded in 1349. The first church (dedicated to St.Barbara) was wooden, the next, stone one was erected in 1488 and in 1569 was converted into a protestant church, then burnt and rebuilt in 1624. In 1628 was given back to Catholics. In 1653 it was reconstructed and given a new name.

  • 10th Mounted Rifle Regiment Holiday organised by the mayor of Łańcut, Military Vehicles and Historic Technology Association, 10th Mounted Rifle Regiment Primary School No3, Youth Community Centre in Łańcut (April)
  • International Days of Dance organised by dance groups of Youth Community Centre and ZPOW in Łańcut (April)
  • The Music Festival in Łańcut (May) – it is one of the oldest and most renowned musical events in Poland. This year it will be held for the forty-sixth time. Interesting repertoire, excellent performances, as well as unique atmosphere and the beauty of a castle ball room where concerts are given, make it an unmissable social and cultural event.
  • Przedszkolada (May and June) – a series of cultural events for young children, including exhibitions and competitions
  • Zenon Brzezewski International Music Courses (July). Founded by Zenon Brzezewski in 1975 every year since has expanded its programme and impact on Polish music education.
  • Summer in the city – a series of events for children and youth organised by Youth Community Centre in Łańcut (July-August)
  • International Painting and Sculpture Plain Air – a meeting of Polish and foreign artists co-organised by Youth Community Centre in Łańcut (August)
  • Organ and Chamber Music Evenings in the Sanctuary of Virgin Mary in Łańcut organised by Music Society in Łańcut (August-September), performances of renowned artists
  • A series of cultural and leisure events entitled ‘Days of the town’ – numerous competitions, concerts, sports and leisure events, exhibitions on the town’s history and traditions (September)

Przemysl – a unique town! PDF Print E-mail


Przemyśl – one of the oldest and most beautiful Polish towns – is situated at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains at the intersection of roads leading to the Bieszczady Mountains, Lvov and the Eastern borderlands. It captivates visitors with its ancient buildings snuggled to winding, steepy streets and church towers reaching higher and higher to the sky. It is a town with a specific atmosphere created through centuries. The richness of its over one thousand year history and hundreds of monuments make it a place where everyone will find something for themselves.

 

Monuments

Times of prosperity as well as difficult periods of the town’s history are commemorated in Przemyśl’s old town historic buildings from different ages, charming streets, churches, two cathedrals: Roman and Greek Catholic and the Kazimierzowski Castle surrounded with a beautiful park. Streets in the old town lead to nearly all sights worth visiting.

 

Przemyśl is called the capital of bells and pipes. The works of local craftsmen are displayed in the local Museum of Bells and Pipes located in the Clock Tower.

A magnet attracting tourists to Przemyśl is the famous Przemyśl Fortress built by Austrians on the hills surrounding the town. The town is enclosed by two rings of  fortifications which after the outbreak of WWI stopped a Rusian army of many thousands heading for the western and southern Europe. The history of the combats is presented  on numerous exhibitions and war cementaries of all the armies involved.

 

Active leisure

 

Przemyśl is a very attractive place for tourists who decide to spent their holiday there. It may be also a perfect starting point for other trips or an interesting stop on a way to the Bieszczady Mountains, Eastern Europe countries or the Balkans.

 

The existing trails make it easy to take up such oudoor activities as hiking or cycling. In the Przemyśl area you can also go hunting, horse-riding, paragliding or canoeing and in winter downhill or cross-country skiing.

 

The tourists atractions in the near vicinity of Przemyśl are numerous: the Molotov Line bunkers, a Rennaisance castle in Krasiczyn, an arboretum in Bolestraszyce, the Sanctuary of Virgin Mary in Kalwaria Pacławska and the oldest in Poland Orthodox church in Posada Rybotycka. Hikers have at their disposal numerous footpaths (included those to Dynów, Sanok and Ustrzyki Dolne) as well as educational and nature tracks going across forests and nature reserves. There are also a lot of expeditions and hikes organised. Cyclists can use several bike path:‘Przemyśl Fortress’, ‘Following the Good Soldier Svejk’ or ‘San Bunkers Trail’. On your way you will see old churches and chapels, historic buildings and mysterious mounds and kurgans. Water lovers may go rafting in the Błękitny San River.

 

In the city itself there is a ski slope situated on a north-west slope of Zniesienie Mountain. Two ski lifts (270 and 740m long) are open in summer season too. In winter skiers and snowboarders can choose betweeen two downhill trails which are 1600m long in total and have a 110m vertical drop. There is also a 350m taboogan run.

 

Events

Cultural life in Przemyśl is marked by its rich past, culture and ethnic diversity and thriving artist community open to European and world art trends as well as more and more often contacts with foreign artists. These factors have created a unique atmosphere and a varied cultural offer of Przemyśl – a city in the borderland.

May

Tourism Podkarpacie Fair (12-13th May)

An outdoor event innaugurating a tourist season in Podkarpacie. It involves: tourism and local crafts and food fairs, music and dance performances and sports and leisure events.

 

Reenactment of the Operation Barbarossa (27th May)

Reenactment of the fights to break through The Molotov Line which took place in June 1941. In the reconstruction a replica of a German Pancer II tank from the WWII will be used as well as other historic military equipment such as trucks, motorcycles and cannons. Last year there were about 7000 spectators and this year it should be similar number of people. The spectacle will start at 3.30 pm on May 27th on the San River in Przemyśl near the Gromada Hotel.

 

JUNE

Multicultural Festival GALICJA (16-17th June)

A series of concerts, exhibitions, meetings, lectures presenting the culture of nations connected in the past or present times with the Przemyśl area. The festival promotes and displays the richeness of Polish, Ukrainian, Austrian, Romanian and Jewish traditions and culture. The programme includes musical and drama performances, art and photography exhibitions and local crafts and food markets.

 

JULY

Big Svejk Manoeuvres in the Przemyśl Fortress (7-8th July)

The manoeuvres are an outdoor fun event promoting the city, the Przemyśl fortress and bringing back the very popular in this area fiction character – the Good Soldier Svejk. The programme includes: musical performances, a bike race ‘Following the Good Soldier Svejk’, games and contests on the river San, antique fairs and other quizzes and competitions tinged with the humour of the Good Soldier Svejk.

 

The Pipe Festival (1st July)

An outdoor event involving pipe fairs, concerts, a parade and a slow smoking contest. It is a festival promoting pipe smoking and manufacturing traditions of Przemyśl which is called the city of pipes and bells.

 

Kupała’s Night (7th July)

The event is a celebration of old folk traditions. It includes craft fairs and local Polish and Ukrainian cuisine markets, concerts and in the evening bonfires and ancient celebrations of the Midsummer Eve

 

The Festival of Honey (29th July)

An outdoor event promoting local honey and crafts, accompanied with fairs, folk dance peformances and a display of the wide array of bee products.

 

AUGUST

The days of Saint Patron of Przemyśl St.Wincent „WINCENTIADA(25-26th August)

‘Wincentiada’ is the biggest outdoor festival in the city. It not only gives reverence to the saint whose relics are kept in the Franciscan church, but it is also a happy family event and an opportunity to display the works of local craftsmen, artists and sportsmen. This festival attracts thousands of the city inhabitants and tourists.
