Baroqe Palace in Sieniawa

The attraction of Sieniawa, a small town near Przeworsk, is a charming Baroque Palace. It was raised in place of an old orangery, in the first half of the 17th century.

It was probably built to the design of Giovanni Spacio, the court architect of the Sieniawski family. In 1743-1745, as it became the Czartoryski family residence, it was largely expanded. Although the Czartoryski’s main residence was in Puławy, from 1795 Sieniawa became the family’s seat of power. For Adam Kazimierz Czartoryski, one of the most eminent Poles of his time, Sieniawa was the dearest place on Earth. In the 19th century, the family took up permanent residence here, making Sieniawa Galicia’s new political, intellectual and cultural centre. They hosted Tadeusz Kościuszko and car Aleksander I as guests.

Presently it’s a luxurious setting for meetings, conferences and recreation. The complex comprises: Palace, Summer Palace, Court Annex, Chamberlain Manor-House and Hunting Pavilion. All these buildings are situated over a vast 29-hectare park. It is said that after dusk the ghost of the most beautiful resident of this building – Izabella Czartoryska -walks along the park by-ways.
